Trip to Mysore

It's been an year since we relocated to India but didn't travel much though that was one of our intentions. However, this year I made up my mind to take travelling quite seriously and have plans to visit at least one new place every month either far or near. As part of this, we made a sudden and short plan to visit Mysore as we all had Monday June 26th off on account of Ramzan, hence marking a long weekend.

Why did we choose Mysore: It's because of Zoo, keeping our lovely boys in our mind. Thought they will be fascinated to see animals. Also, Mysore is one of the major tourist destination which makes everyone to visit at least once.

Day 1:
We along with grand parents made a night journey on Friday, 23rd of June to reach on Saturday morning to utilize the full day. We had booked our 2 rooms for one day, Saturday, in Hotel Rio Meridian. As Hotels allow to checkin only after midmorning, we requested them to add half day extra charge and give us a room until we get our booked room. This gives us provision to freshen-up comfortably and settle well. As staff were quite reasonable they managed to give us both the rooms from 6:00AM with a half day charge of one room. Heartfelt thanks to them. We did freshen-up and had short nap and went for buffet breakfast. Breakfast was yummy with Idli, Puri Chana, Omlette, bread etc. Though such breakfast was not first for us, it was for my parents. They thoroughly enjoyed it. Soon after the breakfast we left for Zoo in a ola cab. Mysore zoo is one of the oldest zoos and home to many birds and animals. We all enjoyed different varieties of birds, colourful peacocks, parrots, toucans etc. We also enjoyed, white tiger, lion, leopards and many more animals. Zoo is covered in quite large landscape and to see entire one has to walk minimum 4kms. We didn't take any vehicle assistance and walked all the way with a good intention of exercise though it is tiring. We promised our boys icecream and made them to walk too. For icecream, boys kept walking and finally at on epoint we found icecream shop and as promised boys were given icecreams. Did have quick sneak peak in crocodile and snake house to mark the long zoo walk. We had a short lunch in one of the nearby hotels which wasn't that great but cheap. After the zoo visit, came back to hotel and took a nap.

And for the later part of the day we didn't have a solid plan. Weighing our option to visit KRS, brindavan garden but thought vehicle hire from that evening to next evening would be pricey and hence decided to roam around Mysore city and go to KRS next day. Took an auto, went to shop but didn't shop except 2 wooden photo frames. Visited St. Philomena church, had few snaps and came back with the discussion of dinner. Finally decided to have a buffet dinner at the Hotel itself as a treat from granny. As it was first buffet dinner experienced by granny and ajja, they seemed to enjoy. Our boys also had good food with right amount of chicken, roti, icecream and jamoon. Finally, with a happiness Anirudh said - 'this is our best dinner ever' and everyone laughed to the core. This marked the end of Day 1.

Day 2:
As this was the last day of our Mysore visit wanted to cover as many places as possible. We had booked a taxi for this day previous night through Mysore Taxi. As planned had good breakfast and waited for taxi. We had to checkout in the morning for better utilization of time. Taxi turned up 30mis late. Made our first visit of the day to Chamundi betta which was heavily crowded due to long weekend. Entry via special ticket was also halted for sometime due to excessive crowd. Finally, managed to get special ticket with wait of 30mins for the ticket. With this special entry too,  took us around 2hrs to finish our darshan. Finally had good satisfying darshana. Walked to show mahishasura to boys and bought ordinary toys and journeyed to Sand museum. Sand museum was okay but not worth the money. After this went for tango ride and some shopping at society. During our shopping, boys went to Art museum and had lunch at Hotel Plaza.

After the lunch visited KRS dam, had few good photos, walked for good distance. Unfortunately didn't manage to see musical lighting in the Brindavan Garden. Krishna Raja Sagara dam is built across river Kaveri and it is Mandya district. After this visit, we came back in time to see Sunday lightings of Mysore Palace. Fascinated to see the night lightings. Satty took many photos, Anirudh was very cranky at this time. Somehow we controlled him and then came back to Hotel to collect our luggage which was kept in the lobby and then came to our boarding station. Had light dinner and boarded the bus. Ajja was little sick in the bus but then got settled okay. Bus reached Udupi around 4:30AM, had quick bath and slept till next day 09:00AM. Meanwhile grand parents left to Karkala in the first bus of the day (i.e, 5:30AM). This marked end of our short and sweet Mysore Trip.
