Hola (Hello),
Facts about Spain:
1. The capital city of Spain is Madrid and is the greenest capital in Europe. The city enjoys more sunny days than almost any other city in Europe
2. Nudity is absolutely legal in Spain. One will find a lot of nudist beaches scattered through the coast. We did see this!!
3. If you are invited to somebodies home and you want to compliment your host on delicious food, you should accept the second serving. But in this case you need to be 100% sure that you are able to finish it.
4. The most controversial sport in Spain is bullfighting.
Day 1 (28th May 2010)
Our first day was just occupied in travelling from London to Spain. Our flight from London Heathrow to Geneva (Switzerland) was at 2:00PM and then from Geneva to Spain at 6:20PM. Reached our Spain tourist location Barcelona at 7:45PM. Didn't do any sight seeing apart from visiting super market, Capraba, to fill our stomach in the night.
Day 2 (29th May 2010)
This was the day where we decided to see some of the buildings pioneered by great spain architect Antoni Gaudi. Started our day around 9:00AM to see some sights. As our hotel was outside tube range we had to travel little bit more each day. Our aim was to visit Sagrada Familia, which is a large Roman Catholic church in Spain which is still under construction for more than 50 years. We took Renfe train from Molin de Rei to Saint Barn and then metro to Sagrada. Queued up for a while to use the lift to reach top of the church. Enjoyed views at the top and it wasnt that crowded. We had our own moments and space. Enjoyed Spiral steps to come down from the top of the church. As it was little bit hot there, we had to cool ourselves with great flavorings of ice creams.
Our next place on the list was LaCasa Milla which is a building designed by Gaudi, but when we went near the building and looking at ticket price didn't feel like viewing in. Just enjoyed it's outside structure. Then went to visit La Casa Batla which is again a Gaudi's building structure. Did visit the building inside and enjoyed thoroughly. By the time we finished viewing this, it was lunch time.We really enjoyed Spanish food Tapas with beer. Fried fish we ate during lunch was really awesome!
Our next sight seeing was 'Park de Guelle' - it's the garden complex designed by Antoni again and situated at the hill of Barcelona. Need to really climb a lot to reach the park. We did roam around the park very relaxingly. When we visited Spain, the Spanish economy was very poor and there were loads of unemployed people which used to make them steal from the easily available tourists. Unfortunately, when we were enjoying this park, we did see one person running very close to us and we just saw him and ignored him. Within few seconds we saw a lady running behind him crying something which revealed us that the person stole something of her. Had we heard this lady screaming earlier, we would have easily caught him. Bad luck!. While our long walks in the park, we tasted Spanish drink - Sangria. Enjoyed some performance, music in the park and then headed towards the great happening street - La Rambla. It was too crowded to watch any performance over here. But we did enjoy almost Indian styled street. Had dinner with a view of busy street. Back to our hotel - Express In for some rest at 12:00AM
Day 3 (30th May 2010)
Slept for little bit more to give some rest to our legs because of long walks the previous day. Had good breakfast and then went to Football FC stadium. Again here we had to walk much with all moaning. We did watch a kids' match happening in the stadium.
Our next sight seeings were hills and beaches. From Football FC stadium went to Mont Juic by train which is a hill in Barcelona. we used Funicular to reach the top of the hill. Then used cable car to reach 'Castelle' and used another cable to go to beach. This cable car ride definitely not my thing. I was holding my breath to finish it off :(
The beach was around the Mediterranean sea with great pebbles. We did have some relaxing time at the beach with some pebble picks.
We had pizza lunch with real knives. Our interesting stories of this tour start here. While we were calming down our hungry stomachs, one man approached us who looked like a local person but asked 'what's the name of the beach?'. Kishor like a schoolboy went to answer his question while clever lady Swathi saw a shadow approaching her. She suddenly turned towards that shadow and that person ran away. Shadow person was trying to flick the valuable bag which was near Kishor. During this time, the person who asked for the beach name just walked off, he didn't wait for Kishor's complete answer. We were observing these 2 people more carefully and they were playing similar tricks with some tourists to snatch something. Luckily we saved here. Otherwise most of the valuable things of Kishor and Swathi would have been gone. This incidence made us extra conscious about everything. After the beach we went to see musical fountain at Montjuic. While travelling in the metro we were targeted by another group of thieves. While boarding the metro, we all boarded first and Satty was the last one to board. When he was about to board, a group of around 5-6 people approached suddenly and they were pushing Satty so that he cannot enter. Somehow Satty managed to enter before train door closed. Suddenly he realized from his short - front pocket's something is missing. He touched to see - it was his purse missing. He screamed 'Purse Purse..' when just entered the train. The thief who stole his purse made into train and when he heard Satty's scream, he dropped the Purse suddenly from his side. People in the train saw this and they were saying he is the one who dropped the purse. Satty just collected purse, we didn't want anything more than this purse to be back as it had many cards and cash too. This group's main intention was to flick the wallet and make Satty not to enter the train and person who stole the wallet will enter the train. Unfortunate to that gang, Satty came in the train. Surprisingly, that thief came to Satty and asked, is all okay/ why you are shouting etc? (in Spanish), like a very studious person. That person got down at the very next stop. We were all covering ourselves and with extra extra conscious walked to see musical fountain.
Watched awesome fountain formations and extraordinary colours between 9:00PM to 10:00PM. From this fountain, being extra careful we traveled in metro from Espanya to Catalunya. Unfortunately we missed last R4-Renfe train to our hotel. Another interesting story while we were changing train after the fountain show! Since Satty was targeted in the last incidence I was making him to walk before me as he had all valuable things like wallet, camera etc. I saw 2 very well built people just started walking behind him. Satty had like a back-pack as his camera. His camera tie was little bit outside. One of the persons from that gang, slowly started to open the zip of his bag to easily pull camera using the camera string. I saw this and screamed, that person just moved his hand away. Hmm, how lucky we were this day and how unlucky these three gangs of thieves were!! Anyways, we just started making jokes on all these thieves. I can still recognize these thieves, if I meet them again. Anyways, interesting stories end here (hopefully). Since we missed our last train, we had to take a taxi from end of tube zone to go to our hotel. Somehow managed to get a Mc. Donald to fill our stomachs. Finding a taxi was also not easy. We had to wait for good amount of time in well deserted streets. By the time we reached hotel it was 1:15AM.
Day 4 (31st May 2010)
Left hotel around 10:00AM to head towards to Monteserrat - the highest hill in Barcelona. Took cable car to go to the top and visited 'Black Virgin Valencia' church and then via funicular to go to topmost point of the hill. I was completely gutted in this cable car and funicular train journeys. This was definitely not my day.
Went to La Rambla street again, had last Spanish dinner and then back to hotel.
Day 5 (1st June 2010)
We wanted to sleep for a bit long as our flight back to London was around lunchtime. Unfortunately, fire alarm woke up and had to rush to front doors. Had our last breakfast in the hotel, came to Barcelona airport to catch flight to Frankfurt which was at 12:40PM. And then another flight to London Heathrow. Was back at our sweet home with sweet memories at 7:00PM.
Adios..
